The Economic and Administrative Index (REA)
The Economic and Administrative Index (in Italian REA - Repertorio delle notizie Economiche e Amministrative) was established in order to complete the set of information contained in the Business Register. The Index holds economic, administrative, and statistical data, such as annual turnovers, business start dates, business temporary closures exceeding 30 days and openings of new branches.
The notifications to the Economic and Administrative Index must be sent within 30 days of the event that they refer to. All the sole proprietorships/companies registered with the Business Register are included, because of the aforementioned sole registration, in the Economic and Administrative Index.
Nonetheless, some entities/ people that are not obliged to register with the Business register, must apply for registration with the Index only, such as:
- companies having one or more branches in Italy and the registered office abroad;
- associations and other non-corporate entities that carry out, in addition to their institutional activity, an economic activity.
In accordance with Leg. Decree 59/2010, natural persons who ceased running a brokerage activity or a commercial agency within a company, can register with the Index within 90 days of the cessation of their activities, in order to keep their enabling requirements.
