We use energy-intensive appliances every day. Consumption of electricity, water, and gas has a growing impact on the environment and the economy.
The European Union has included the reduction of energy consumption among the priorities of its energy and environmental policy.
Such a goal is pursued, among other things, through two kinds of provisions:
- when designing their products, producers must comply with minimum standards, to guarantee a progressive improvement in energy efficiency;
- suppliers and distributors are required to give consumers the information necessary to compare different levels of energy efficiency and make informed purchase decisions.
